How much does it cost you to do a year’s worth of data entry?
Now, how much would it cost you to do it twice?
That’s what Practical Systems clients are faced with if they do not use multiple storage methods for their data back ups.
Like the majority of Practical System clients who only use one form of data storage for their software backups, Jo Slack-Smith thought she had protected herself from data loss with the use of two memory sticks.
After persevering for a couple of months with an unstable system, Jo’s old computer totally crashed and all hard drive data was lost. A new computer was bought, however neither of her two memory sticks she was using had a non-corrupted copy of her data.
“The bottom line was I had lost nine months worth of financial year data,” she said.
“I had to re-install Cashbook Plus! onto the new computer, set up chart of accounts and bank accounts again and then re-enter nine months worth of data.
“I was in disbelief as I was certain that no matter what happened with the computer my data was safe.
“I now have an external hard drive and data sticks, however I am continually nervous about the reliability of both these sources.”
Jo will be one of the first users of Practical Systems online data storage service and recommends other clients join her.
“A computer crash is not the only way you can lose data,” she said.
“Computer theft, fire and water damage can also cause permanent data loss, so for these reasons alone it is worth having a reliable off farm secure backup source.
“I am satisfied that data security and confidentiality will be of the highest quality and I value my time at about $60 per hour so it doesn't take much to do the maths and work out the value.
“I will also continue to use my own backup systems however have learnt from experience that you never can be too careful.”

Jo - Slack-Smith is an experienced Cashbook Plus user, so you would think that she would have an effective back up process, here is her story
